When we are interviewing a potential security guard we look for the following qualities:

  • The relevant security license and drivers license [if applicable]

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and time management when under stress

  • Excellent communication, written, numeracy and literacy skills

  • A commitment to excellence in customer service

  • High standard of accuracy and close attention to detail

    In a vacancy ad we outline the selection criteria - this gives the guard a very good indication of what is expected of them and where they can get extra information about the job.

    Before the Interview

    After we have received the security guard application and resume we then commence phone interviews.

    The types of questions in a phone interview can generally determine many of the above attributes before the interview and assess any unlikely candidates.

    We use a phone interview template so that anyone in our business is able to ring the security guard and ask questions, and assess tone and manner.

    Preparing for the Security Guard Interview

    Once all the phone interviews have been completed the recruitment management team have a meeting to discuss the interview timetable and organise the interview date, time, who will attend, etc.

    The interview questions are prepared, based on the selection criteria!

    We then contact the selected applicants and either send an interview letter or make a phone call and follow up with a letter outlining what they need to bring to the interview with them.

    The Interview Day

    The big day has come and the timetable for interviews is prepared.

    The interview checklist will contain the following:

  • The selected candidates

  • The selection details for each candidate

  • The interview timetable

  • The interview questions

  • The person that will greet and welcome the candidates

  • Which team member of the interview panel will ask which questions [Our interview panel usually consists of 2-3 team members - depending on the position]
