Security Guard Licensing Requirements In Illinois

In Illinois, security guards are employed by a licensed private security contractor who is licensed by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation. In order to be registered, security guard applicants must:

1. be at least 18 years old

2. be a Citizen of the United States or a legal resident alien

3. pass an employment and criminal background check

4. submit fingerprints and pay required fees

Training Requirements

All prospective security guards are required to take the following training courses:

1.complete a 20-hour basic training course;

2.complete a 20-hour firearm training course for armed security guards
