Becoming a Security Guard UK – Everything you need to know

If you are thinking of becoming a security Guard, UK then there is a number of factors that you will need to take into account. While you may be able to find a security guard vacancy that requires little to no experience, generally you will need to undergo some form of training. Security Guard Licenses in the UK

These days, in order to become a security guard within the UK you need to acquire a security license. The new rules came into effect on the 20th March 2006. So if you do plan on becoming a security guard then you will need to earn an SIA licence. You can request an SIA licence pack from the SIA website at www.the-sia.org.uk. Currently the website is being developed and it will soon allow you to apply for the licence online.

One thing to take into account is the fact that there are different types of SIA licences. It all depends upon the type of security work that you would like to complete. For example, do you need a manned guarding licence or a cash and valuables in transit licence? Different security jobs will require a different SIA licence. This means that you will need to have a good idea what type of security sector you want to get into before you apply for a licence.

Most security UK jobs will usually require you to have some level of training. Obviously everyone has to start somewhere, but without the right training you could find it really difficult to break into the security sector.

As with the security licences, before you undergo any type of training you will need to have a good idea what type of security job you would like to get into. You can choose training courses for all security job types including door supervision, key holding, security guarding and close protection. For security guarding the qualifications you can achieve include the Level 2 Certificate for Security Guards. That is possibly the best qualification to aim for if you do want a general security guard job.

When you think of being a security guard UK, what do you imagine doing? For many people their idea of a security guard UK job is a door supervisor.
